Lembas Bread:

Sean and Hayden got an idea to make Lembas Bread one day.  So we looked on google (the proper source of authentic Lord of the Rings recipes) and found a recipe that didn't look unappetizingly healthy, and it was AWESOME! We even made it twice.  And the boys found big leaves outside with which to wrap the Lembas Bread for extra authenticity.

Hair Cut:

Got my hair cut.  Love a good hair cut.

Fire Engines:

A friend of ours is neighbors with the State Fire Marshal who hosts an annual party for the firefighters. Some of them drive over in their trucks and open them up for the neighborhood kids to play in, which of course, was a big hit.  I practically had to drag Bennett out of the engine--I think he would have liked to move in, actually.

Sydney:

She has done this since she was a baby--her tongue rests over her bottom teeth when she's sleeping.  It's so endearing to me.

Projects:

I cut the wood for these picture frames a couple years ago and FINALLY got them sanded and assembled and ready to gift this month.  I love finishing a project.  I'm so much better at starting projects than finishing them, so really.  Hurray for me for finishing one! 

Daphne in YW:

Daphne turned 12 at the end of August and was so excited to come home one night to find that her new Young Women's group, the Beehives, had heart attacked her room.

"Friday Family Fun Night":

Watching the laundry go in the new washer and dryer.  Entertainment at it's best.  And cleanest. ;)

Halloween Costume Construction:

Daphne got a jump on her costume this year.  She made about half of her Galadriel Costume.  In the end, we just couldn't find enough time we were both available to have her make the whole thing, so I finished it.  But she cut it out and sewed a lot of the major seam lines.  Go Daphne!

Lunar Eclipse/Red Moon:

Arthur got this picture through his telescope.  It looked pretty awesome!  Several friends and neighbors stopped by to look through the telescope as well.

Bennett:

I started a new project.  I'm trying to build a shelf.  And I told Bennett we were gonna go outside and cut and some wood.  So, he ran into the kitchen, retrieved a butter knife and came out to help me "cut the wood."  What a helper!

He also is really good at climbing onto any surface and finding forbidden items such as the SHARPEES! He gifted me this artwork on our newly painted kitchen cabinets.  At least the worse of it was on the inside.

Throw Pillows--more time than they deserved

Seems stupid to post about throw pillows, but they took a substantial part of my month of September. I'd go buy some and try them out, and then go buy some more and mix them up, and take back the rejects, get some new ones . . . It took FOREVER!  Just to update some stupid throw pillows.  Bennett was a trooper and made the best of the situation, finding the softest pillows on the aisle and lining his ride with them.  :)

But seriously, this is a big reason why my house is not decorated how I imagine on my pinterest boards.  I don't have time.  If it takes a MONTH to settle on a throw pillow ensemble, I don't have time.  Thus, I have concluded, that my house is not gonna look the way I imagine until all my kids are in school.  Hurray for finally coming to a throw pillow ceasefire, but I'm not decorating for another 5 years or so because I don't have time to make 7 trips to the store over throw pillows.

Pirate Day at Krispy Kreme

Once a year on National Pirate Day (yes that's a thing) Krispy Kreme gives out a free donut to each person to talks like a pirate and a free DOZEN to every person dressed like a pirate.  So the last few years we've gotten together with some friends all dressed like pirates to claim our free donuts.  Our family walked out with 7 dozen donuts!!

Broadway Soiree

Friday, Sept 18th

At the "Von Trapnell's" House

Well since I always have an itch to perform, and I want my kids to have opportunities to perform too, I thought it would be fun, (and less time consuming than another musical) to get together with some friends and perform for each other.  I asked my friend Cheryl, our fabulous music director from King and I if she would accompany everyone, and my friend Julie agreed to host, and we had a super fun night of Broadway music.  My four oldest children sang pieces from Into the Woods,  and all together with our friends I think we had 18 pieces performed.  Afterwards, we enjoyed treats, while the older kids, who couldn't get enough, all gathered around the piano and sang their hearts out to Frozen and other pop songs that either Dallin or Brooklyn could play on the piano. It was delightful.  I'll definitely repeat in the future.

Russ went above and beyond offering his coffee table as a stage for the performers.  :)

Dallin & his friend Charles sang the duet "Agony" complete with costumes and some shirt "ripping" choreography. I saved them for last, and rightly so because they brought down the house.

The Bus Stop

Today was Mr. Terry's last day as our elementary school bus driver.  I don't remember any of my bus drivers from school.  But I can confidently say that Mr. Terry is the best bus driver ever.  He is retiring to take care of his wife who is a brain cancer survivor.  She is currently relearning how to walk.  I'm really thankful for ordinary people like bus drivers who go out of their way to make the world a better place in their own unique way.  Mr. Terry decorated his bus for the seasons and holidays.  He called me to give me treatment tips for Hayden's frequent bloody noses.  Once, he made a special stop by our house because Hayden didn't make it to the bus stop on time due to his shoes being missing.  Mr. Terry made the ride to and from school a good way to start and end each school day.  He could have been mean and cranky but instead he lined the windows with leaf garland and hung hot air balloons from the ceiling in the fall.  He put antlers and a red nose on his bus in December.  My kids and I will always remember him because he took the time to brighten his space in the world.  And it brightened ours too.  Mrs. Terry is in good hands.

East Mountains

Our next door neighbors, the Ostlers have property in the East Mountains, and invited us to come up and get some fire wood for the winter.  The kids LOVED riding in the back of their truck once we got up to their property.  Everybody worked hard cutting, carrying and loading the wood.  And now we are set for the winter!  Bennett still talks about cutting wood and riding in the truck, whenever he sees the Ostlers green truck in their driveway.
