Glorietta Get-away

A couple of weekends ago, I got to attend a scrapbooking retreat with a bunch of friends.  I really enjoy scrapbooking but I hardly ever get around to it because it takes so long to even get all of my stuff out, let alone to sprout an idea for a lay-out.  One of these days I'll probably have to switch over to digital, but for now, I'm still doing the old-fashioned "by-hand" method.  I went up to a little conference center called Glorietta just north of Santa Fe.  They gave us a room to sleep in, all our meals for the days we're there, and a scrapbooking room where each of us gets our own table.  It's perfect.  We bought up all our scrap crap (Brian will appreciate that term)  and left it all out until it was time to go home.  We stayed for two and half days and scrapped, talked and shared ideas and supplies to our hearts' content.  I came home with ten two-page layouts!  Yahoo!  I think I have the best husband ever.  Thanks Arthur for holding down the fort while I got some creative outlet time.  You are AWESOME!!!

Above is one I actually did before I left.  So this is all the scrapbooking I've done year to date.  One layout in the first three months, and ten up at Glorietta in under three days.  The following pics are not as clear because I'd already put them in their sheet protectors and was too lazy to get them out again.  But you get the gist.

This one will look better when I get that left picture enlarged.

Super Why Sean

My favorite kid show these days is a PBS show called "Super Why."  I love it because it's Sean's favorite "kid show" and whenever the theme song comes on, he gets so excited and dances all around.  One morning, I heard that Super Why was coming up, so I got out the video camera to catch his sweet moves.  He just may be the next Napoleon Dynamite.

Holy Pigeon

This morning in family scripture reading we read about when Jesus was baptized, and the Holy Ghost appeared over His head in the form of a dove.

So while we were walking Dallin to the bus stop, Daphne said, "Mom, the Holy Ghost just flew over our heads!"

I guess that just proves that children's eyes are purer because all I saw was a pigeon.

Testimony

*This post is primarily geared toward my friends who are not members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons).

I don't know how many of you actually take the time to look at our blog, but I thought I'd take this opportunity to share a little bit about my faith.

So, this past weekend, we watched a General Conference of our church. Twice a year members of the church all over the world congregate in homes and church buildings in almost every nation on the earth to watch the General Conference of the church via satellite, internet, and cable TV. I love general conference because for two days we listen to addresses from the prophet and apostles and other general church leaders.

I once told a friend of mine that we have a prophet of God on the earth today and she kind-of did a double take.

"Prophet?" she asked skeptically.
"Yes, a prophet," I said, "Like Noah, and Moses were prophets. There's one on the earth today."

She was amazed. (And maybe she didn't believe me.) But her reaction made me think about what a blessing it is to know that there really is a prophet on the earth today. It makes complete sense. Why would God have prophets in ancient days and leave the rest of us to wander in darkness?

When Jesus was on the earth, He organized his church. He called 12 apostles, and gave them priesthood keys and authority. When they were killed, the authority was not passed on and the priesthood keys were lost from the earth for many years. After centuries of darkness, a young boy asked God which of all the churches were true and which he should join. It was through this boy, the young prophet Joseph Smith, that God restored His gospel in its entirety.

The church that Jesus organized while on the earth, has been restored. It is lead by Jesus Christ, through His prophet, and the 12 apostles. The apostles in Jesus' day were witnesses of the divinity of Christ. Today they have that same mission.

I just want to tell my friends that
I know,
because the spirit has witnessed to my heart,
that God has not left us alone.
He spoke in days past and He speaks today.

If you'd like to hear the most recent council from a true prophet of God, please take a moment to read his remarks from General Conference, by clicking here, or visiting lds.org, and finding April 2008 General Conference link.

If you pray and ask with real intent, you can receive the same witness of the spirit, that God speaks today through His prophet Thomas S. Monson and through the 12 apostles. And He can speak peace to your heart and give you testimony through the witness of the Holy Ghost.
